Cold Weather Advisory issued February 6 at 1:20AM EST until February 8 at 7:00AM EST by NWS Blacksburg VA
AREAS AFFECTED: Ashe; Alleghany; Watauga; Grayson; Carroll; Floyd; Craig; Alleghany; Roanoke; Botetourt; Rockbridge
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...For the High Wind Warning, northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 to 60 mph expected. For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 12 below expected. * WHERE...Portions of northwest North Carolina and southwest and west central Virginia. * WHEN...For the High Wind Warning, from 7 PM this evening to 7 PM EST Saturday. For the Cold Weather Advisory, from 1 AM Saturday to 7 AM EST Sunday. * IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. The cold wind chills as low as 12 below zero could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
INSTRUCTION: Remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution if you must drive. Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.

Similar to cirrocumulus clouds, altocumulus clouds are
characterized by cloud patches. They are distinguished by larger cloudlets
than cirrocumulus clouds but are still smaller than stratocumulus clouds.
Altocumulus clouds most commonly form in middle altitudes (between 2 and 5 km)
and may resemble, at times, the shape of a flying saucer.
These uncommon formations, called altocumulus lenticularis, are created by uplift
in the atmosphere and are most often seen in close proximity to mountains.

Cirrocumulus clouds form at high altitudes (usually around 5 km)
and have distinguishing characteristics displayed in a fine layer of
small cloud patches. These small cloud patches are sometimes referred to as
"cloudlets" in relation to the whole cloud formation.
Cirrocumulus clouds are formed from ice crystals and water droplets. Often, the
water droplets in the cloud freeze into ice crystals and the cloud becomes a
cirrostratus cloud. Because of this common occurrence, cirrocumulus cloud
formations generally pass rapidly.
